Sheikh Jassim Emerges as Glazers Preferred Bidder for Manchester United Takeover

Manchester United ownership by the Glazer family led to a decrease in the club value.

Reports suggest that Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani bid to take over Manchester United is the preferred choice for the Glazers.

Although Sheikh Jassim third and final bid didn't meet the Glazers estimated value of over £6 billion, experts claim that the Qatari proposed takeover far surpasses the £4.8 billion sale of the NFL team Washington Commanders.

INEOS, the rival bidders, propose owning just over 50% of the club, allowing the Glazers to retain their approximately 20% stake.

However, experts believe that the Glazers, who are not popular among Manchester United fans, will be tempted to accept Sheikh Jassim offer, primarily due to financial reasons.

Dan Plumley, a sports finance expert, stated that the decisive factor would be the money involved and that the Qatar bid is likely preferred because it offers a full takeover and potential access to funds for infrastructure and squad development.

The deadline for the takeover was initially set before the summer transfer window, following the club announcement in November to seek funding.

Despite setbacks, Plumley remains optimistic that the takeover will be completed in time for the new owners to make an impact in the market.

The process so far indicates that a deal could be finalized before the start of the upcoming window, allowing the potential new owners to make preparations for the summer and beyond.

The Glazers, who have owned Manchester United since 2005, face strong disapproval from numerous supporters due to below-par performances in the Premier League and a perceived lack of investment in Old Trafford.

Manchester United value dropped when it was revealed that the Glazer family would retain ownership of the team, causing a 13% decrease in the company stock price, as reported by ESPN.
