Qatar Considers Investment in Brazilian Club Santos

Qatar Sports Investments, led by Nasser Al Khelaifi from Paris Saint-Germain, is exploring the possibility of acquiring a stake in the Brazilian football club Santos, according to reports from Brazilian media outlet Globo. While discussions are still in the early stages, sources close to Al Khelaifi circle have confirmed that the opportunity is being looked into.

Qatar Sports Investments, which already owns PSG, has been actively seeking to expand its global influence through minor investments in various clubs.

In addition to Santos, the fund has acquired a 21% share in FC Braga and is also considering a controlling share in Malaga. This move comes alongside a separate bid by Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani to purchase Manchester United from the Glazer family.

While Sheikh Jassim bid is said to be the preferred option for the Glazers, other potential buyers, including INEOS, are also competing for the club. The Glazers' ownership of Manchester United has faced criticism from fans due to poor on-field performance and perceived lack of investment in the team.

The news that the Glazers intend to retain ownership caused a 13% drop in the club stock price.
