Chicago Voted Best Large City in the United States
This historic recognition marks the seventh consecutive year that Condé Nast Traveler readers have bestowed this prestigious accolade upon Chicago as part of the magazine's Readers' Choice Awards.
For 36 years, Condé Nast Traveler has gathered feedback from its readers to determine the winners of its Readers' Choice Awards, the travel industry's oldest and most prestigious recognition of excellence. And every year since 2017, Chicago has consistently emerged as the Best Large City in the United States. This year, the awards were based on the feedback of over 520,000 readers.
This award underscores Chicago's enduring appeal to visitors from around the world and follows a record-breaking summer in terms of stays, with historically high hotel revenue levels.
Choose Chicago has released summer 2023 performance data, showing that Chicago had a vibrant summer season:
- Hotel revenues for June, July, and August totaled $825 million, an all-time high for the summer months.
- Over a million room nights were booked each month this summer, totaling 3.24 million hotel room nights, a 4% increase from the previous year and representing 92% of 2019 figures.
- Leisure visitors, in particular, flocked to Chicago this summer, with a busy schedule of concerts, events, and festivals. Total hotel room demand increased by 8% compared to summer 2022.
