Brighton Extends Japanese Player Kaoru Mitoma Contract for Four Seasons

Brighton, England, October 20 - English Premier League club Brighton announced today the extension of their Japanese international player, Kaoru Mitoma's contract for an additional four seasons, set to conclude in the summer of 2027.

In an official statement, the club highlighted that the 26-year-old Japanese player will remain with the team for several more seasons to leverage his remarkable skills. Mitoma's impressive contributions played a pivotal role in Brighton's qualification for the UEFA Europa League for the first time in the club's history.

Since joining Brighton from Belgian club Saint-Gilloise on loan in the 2021-2022 season, Kaoru Mitoma has displayed his prowess by scoring 13 goals and providing 12 assists in 52 matches across various competitions.

Mitoma holds the record for the most goals in a single season by a Japanese player in the English Premier League, having netted seven goals in the 2022-2023 season. This achievement surpassed the previous record held by his compatriots, Shinji Okazaki and Shinji Kagawa, by a margin of one goal.

In the current season, Mitoma has already scored three goals and contributed three assists in the eight matches he has played so far.

Brighton currently occupies the sixth position in the Premier League standings with 16 points. They are scheduled to face defending champions Manchester City in the ninth round of the competition tomorrow.

The contract extension of Kaoru Mitoma demonstrates Brighton commitment to retaining and nurturing top talent, while Mitoma's impressive performances make him a pivotal player for the club's ambitions in both domestic and international competitions.
