"Moi aussi" by Judith Godrèche to Be Presented at the 77th Cannes Film Festival

"Moi aussi" by Judith Godrèche to Be Presented at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, The Cannes Film Festival, taking place from May 14th to 25th, will feature the debut short film by French actress, director, screenwriter, and producer Judith Godrèche, shedding light on the narratives of victims of sexual violence. These individual experiences, intertwined with hers, underscore their sadly universal nature. The Cannes Film Festival aims to amplify these testimonies.

Cinema observes the world and sometimes, it challenges it. Through gestures or silences, words or gazes.
Three months ago, her resounding call to action and collective responsibility in combating sexual abuse prevailing in French cinema captivated with its strength and courage, clarity and assurance. It went far beyond the realm of the Seventh Art to question society as a whole, which struggles to open its eyes.
Exactly one month after this vital expression, on March 23, 2024, Judith Godrèche seized the two means of expression she knows best—writing and cinema—and gathered women and men who shared their traumatic experiences with her.
"Suddenly, before me, a crowd of victims, a reality that represents France as well, as these stories emerge from all social backgrounds, from all generations," confides Judith Godrèche. "Then came the question of what I was going to do with it. What do you do when you are overwhelmed by what you hear, by the quantity of testimonies?"
Reconstructing an intimate sonic and visual landscape, the director crafts a film in the form of a choral work composed of personal accounts spoken in fragments, depicting this arduous yet redemptive journey from wordless pain to the beginning of liberation through speech. A thousand people participate. Music, dance, imagery, imagination provide them with a space both physical and symbolic: being together, in the middle of the street, in broad daylight, and occupying the city as a militant gesture.

"Moi aussi," in the Official Selection 2024, will be presented at the Opening Ceremony of the Certain Regard in the Debussy Hall of the Palais des Festivals and at the Cinema de la Plage, open to all, on May 15th.

Actress, director, screenwriter, and producer, Judith Godrèche has appeared in nearly fifty films. She began her film career in 1981 with Nadine Trintignant's film "Next Summer" and has since taken on roles in film, television, and theater. Nominated several times for the César Awards, Judith Godrèche has worked with numerous filmmakers worldwide such as Sophie Fillières, Cédric Klapisch, Park Chan-wook, Olivier Assayas, Jerzy Skolimowski, François Ozon, and Tonie Marshall.
In 2010, she wrote and directed her first film "All the Girls Cry," then returned behind the camera in 2023 with the series "Icon of French Cinema" broadcast on Arte.
In 2024, "Moi aussi," written and directed by Judith Godrèche, is produced by Didar Dommeri of Maneki Films.
