Riyadh’s XP Music Futures: Bridging Cultures Through Music
XP Music Futures, held in Riyadh, was a dynamic convergence of musical cultures from all corners of the globe. Hosted in the iconic Jax District of Diriyah, the event served as a gathering space for music industry professionals, creatives, and enthusiasts to celebrate and explore the diverse world of music. With a focus on global collaboration, XP Music Futures highlighted the musical richness of different cultures, giving attendees an opportunity to connect with talented artists and influential figures from across the world. The event kicked off the highly anticipated Riyadh Music Week, an extraordinary occasion that will also feature major events such as the Global Music Makers Summit, Billboard Arabia Music Awards, and the Music Cities Convention Awards. One of the key highlights of the week is the Soundstorm 2024 music festival, which promises to be an electrifying experience, showcasing the best of global music talent. Spanning three days from December 5 to 7, XP Music Futures offered a carefully curated program of both day and night activities. The daytime segment, XP DAY, provided a platform for workshops, panel discussions, and speaker-led sessions focused on the future of music. These sessions brought together thought leaders and industry professionals who shared their knowledge and insights on various aspects of the music business. XP NITE, the nighttime component of the event, was an immersive experience where regional event organizers, promoters, and record labels took center stage. With a rich variety of music genres spanning from traditional sounds to cutting-edge electronic music, the XP NITE program created an engaging atmosphere that captivated attendees. Each night, different artists performed on the various stages at Jax District, ensuring that the crowd was continuously entertained by diverse musical offerings. Bader Assery, the senior project manager at MDLBEAST, emphasized the event’s commitment to bringing fresh and innovative elements to each edition of XP Music Futures. "Our goal is to make each year unique, and to bring new experiences to the audience. This year, we have collaborated with Nigerian artists, introducing Afrobeats to the region, and it’s been an incredible journey," Assery said. The artists from Nigeria performed a compelling mix of Afrobeats, R&B, hip-hop, and electronic music, creating an unforgettable cultural exchange. "What’s fascinating about these Nigerian artists is that they don’t just replicate popular global trends; they infuse their own cultural sounds into them, creating something that feels authentic and genuine," Assery noted. Among the performers was Heba Hussein, known professionally as Kayan, a singer-songwriter and composer who combines Arabic poetry with neo-soul and jazz. "I came to XP because I wanted to experience the cultural diversity of this event and to meet talented musicians. It’s been a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the Saudi music scene," Kayan explained. Excited about her upcoming performance, Kayan revealed her determination to bring a fresh perspective to the music industry. "I’m very excited for my show on Saturday. It’s a little nerve-wracking, but I’m confident that I’ll deliver something special. I believe the world is ready for the change I’m about to make in the industry," she said. XP Music Futures is not only a celebration of music but a symbol of Riyadh’s growing role as a cultural leader in the region. By fostering collaboration and promoting cross-cultural musical exchange, the event underscores Riyadh’s position as a burgeoning hub for global music innovation.
