The Cannes Film Festival 2024

The Cannes Film Festival 2024 is shaping up to be a must-attend event for cinema enthusiasts, featuring a diverse selection of talents including renowned names such as Francis Ford Coppola, Jacques Audiard, and David Cronenberg in competition. This year, 18 films are vying for the prestigious Palme d'Or, with five of them directed by French filmmakers.

The event, which will take place from May 14th to 25th at the Palais des Festivals, unveiled its selection during a press conference in Paris this Thursday. Chosen from over 2,000 submissions, these works reflect the diversity and richness of contemporary cinema.

Internationally acclaimed stars such as Kevin Kostner, Nicolas Cage, and George Miller (out of competition), among others, are announced to grace the red carpet. The festival also has special moments in store, including the out-of-competition screening of the fifth installment of the Mad Max saga, "Furiosa," directed by George Miller, who will also receive an honorary Palme d'Or.

Highlights include the presentation of the film "Le Fil" by French actor Daniel Auteuil and "L'invasion" by Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitza. The jury, chaired by renowned American director Greta Gerwig, faces the daunting task of judging the competing films.

Adding to the excitement, French actress Camille Cottin will host the opening and closing ceremonies. For the opening, audiences will have the privilege of witnessing the world premiere of Quentin Dupieux's new comedy, "Le deuxième acte".
