Cannes Lions 2024: India Starts Strong with Silver and Two Bronzes

Mumbai: India has made a notable start at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, often likened to the Oscars of advertising, securing one Silver and two Bronze Lions in the initial round of awards. Ogilvy Mumbai clinched a Silver Lion in the Outdoor Lions category for their inventive 'Megh Santoor' campaign promoting Brooke Bond Taj Mahal tea. The campaign featured a pioneering musical billboard that played 'Raag Megh Malhar' during rainfall, previously recognized with a Guinness World Record for the largest environmentally interactive billboard.

India also excelled in the health and wellness category, earning two Bronze Lions. Ogilvy's 'The Impossible Choice' campaign and McCann's 'Fit my Feet' campaign were acknowledged for their impactful messaging. "Our approach, driven by empathy and innovative design, not only supports individuals with clubfoot but also empowers India's cobblers with new economic opportunities," remarked Prasoon Joshi, Chairman of Asia Pacific & CEO and Chief Creative Officer at McCann India.

With approximately 826 entries submitted and 44 shortlisted across 31 categories, India looks poised for a potentially record-breaking year. The current tally of three Lions positions India favorably to surpass its previous best of 47 medals, including two titanium Lions, achieved in 2022.

Accenture Song's Creative Chairperson kicked off the festival with their annual 'song simplifies' session, stressing the importance of aligning customer values with business objectives. McDonald's also made an impact with a session on fostering collaboration within the C-suite, featuring insights from CFO Ian Borden alongside global CMO Morgan Flatley.

Subsequent sessions featured advertising luminary David Droga discussing the intersection of AI and human creativity with Open AI's representatives. Looking forward, juries will evaluate entries in categories such as industry craft, digital craft, film craft, design, and entertainment Lions, where India boasts a total of 12 shortlisted entries.

Upcoming highlights include debates on corporate social responsibility featuring David Droga and JPMorgan & Chase's Carla Hassan, a keynote by P&G's Chief Brand Officer Marc Pritchard on uncovering creativity in everyday insights, and a session by Talented co-founders PG Aditiya and Gautam Reghunath addressing pricing strategies within the industry.
