Qatar National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) is set to introduce a data classification policy that aims to enhance data governance across government institutions and organizations in the country. The policy will provide a standardized system for classifying data, enabling the smooth exchange of information and ensuring a unified understanding of data classification among different entities in Qatar.
The implementation of this policy will support the execution of various projects and initiatives at both institutional and national levels. By familiarizing stakeholders with the fundamental principles of data classification and ensuring compliance with national policies, the policy will contribute to the overall improvement of cybersecurity in Qatar.
Moreover, the National Data Classification Policy will serve as a fundamental element of the National Information Assurance (NIA) standards, as well as other national guidelines and policies. This means that it will regulate and govern the levels of data classification adopted by relevant institutions in Qatar.
Under the new policy, data will be classified into three categories: high risk, medium risk, and low risk. This classification will assist in determining the necessary technical and administrative measures to safeguard data assets effectively.
The policy will also provide specific tags to facilitate data processing, sharing, and identification of the required level of protection from a procedural or technical standpoint. Additionally, it will establish a set of controls to safeguard data and define the roles and responsibilities that institutions must adhere to.
To introduce the data classification policy and highlight its significance at the national level, the NCSA will be hosting a virtual workshop. The workshop aims to offer detailed insights into the key aspects of the policy, enabling stakeholders to meet its requirements and enhance data governance practices in Qatar.
