Doha, Qatar: The recently concluded sixth World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai marked the official launch of the "Global Alliance on Artificial Intelligence for Industry and Manufacturing" (AIM Global), a collaborative effort between UNIDO, Huawei, and other partners.
Led by UNIDO, AIM Global aims to bring together public and private stakeholders to drive the adoption and innovation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the realm of industry and manufacturing.
During the opening ceremony of WAIC, Gerd Müller, Director General of UNIDO, emphasized the shared responsibility of ensuring ethical, safe, sustainable, and inclusive advancements in AI. Müller highlighted the significance of bridging the digital divide among nations and industries, ensuring that AI's benefits reach all corners of society. AIM Global, Müller noted, will play a pivotal role in shaping the AI landscape, fostering a future where AI serves as a positive force, accessible to all, and aligned with shared values.
Vicky Zhang, Vice President of Corporate Communications at Huawei, expressed pride in Huawei's role as a strategic partner of AIM Global. She emphasized Huawei's commitment to leveraging AI to invigorate industrial development. Zhang explained that Huawei is actively building robust computing capabilities and launching specialized AI models tailored to various industries. The company's ultimate goal is to create AI solutions that effectively cater to diverse industries and contribute to scientific research advancement.
The collaboration between UNIDO and Huawei through AIM Global will capitalize on UNIDO's global investment and technology promotion offices, which provide support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) worldwide.
