TotalEnergies Refining and Chemicals Qatar Commends Qatargas for Outstanding Safety Performance

Doha, Qatar: The Management Committee for Refining and Chemicals (R&C) of TotalEnergies in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa region has bestowed recognition upon Qatargas for their exceptional commitment to safety. Qatargas has been honored with the Joint Venture (JV) Safety Award for 2022, underscoring their remarkable safety achievements, particularly at Laffan Refineries over the past year.

Qatargas, through its continuous enhancement of safety protocols and rigorous measures, has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to promoting and upholding a safe working environment at Laffan Refineries. This accolade signifies their proactive approach in fostering a culture of safety, vigilance, and risk mitigation by identifying potential hazards and taking swift and appropriate actions to address them.

During a special ceremony, TotalEnergies, as a shareholder in Laffan Refineries, celebrated this noteworthy accomplishment. Francois Good and Ghazi Shahin, Senior Management representatives from TotalEnergies, presented the award in the presence of esteemed individuals such as Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani, CEO of Qatargas Operating Co. Ltd., and Fahad Mohammed Al-Khater, Chief Offshore, Terminals and Refining Officer. Also in attendance were notable figures including Abdullah Khalid Idris, RLTO and Refining Manager, Aly Salah Aly Anany, A/Refining Asset Manager, Ali Al-Sulaiti, Public Relations Manager at Qatargas, Yves Houilliez, Vice President of the Manufacturing Division & Africa, and Eva Dewi, Assets Manager for Refining & Chemicals Ventures at TotalEnergies.

Commending the achievement, Francois Good, Senior Vice President of TotalEnergies Refining & Petrochemicals Orient & Growth, lauded the Laffan Refineries team: "This award acknowledges the remarkable safety accomplishments of the Laffan Refineries team and their exceptional performance across all operations. Congratulations to the leadership and teams at Laffan Refineries, and we anticipate building on these achievements in the future."

Ghazi Shahin, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Refining & Petrochemicals – Qatar, added, "Qatargas has been a longstanding partner for TotalEnergies in both upstream and downstream endeavors, including Laffan Refineries. We take pride in their outstanding achievements and are committed to supporting their plant operations, while continually innovating to optimize asset performance."

Expressing appreciation for the award, Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatargas CEO, remarked, "We are honored to receive this award from our longstanding partner TotalEnergies. It's important to highlight the remarkable accomplishments of Laffan Refineries since its establishment in 2009. The LR1 Facility has achieved a noteworthy safety record, maintaining a remarkable 13-year period without a Lost Time Incident (LTI) since its inception. Similarly, the LR2 Facility has achieved six years without an LTI since 2017. Laffan Refineries consistently sets high safety standards within the industry, serving as an inspiring example for others to follow.
