Foreign Affairs Minister Participates in Joint GCC-EU Meeting

Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, took part in the 27th GCC-EU Joint Council and Ministerial Meeting held in Oman.

The meeting was co-chaired by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, Oman's Foreign Affairs Minister, and Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), was also in attendance.

Al Zayani underscored that this meeting presented an opportunity to further strengthen the robust relationship between the GCC and the EU, while also uniting efforts to address regional and European challenges.

He added that the GCC and the EU share a common objective: to achieve enduring global peace, where stability and security pave the way for development and prosperity.

In the current global climate, Al Zayani stressed the need for comprehensive and collaborative measures from both parties to address the ongoing crises and challenges.

The Ministerial Council discussed cooperation, regional security, and climate change.

The GCC and the EU expressed their satisfaction with the progress made in enhancing their strategic partnership, emphasizing its significance in addressing regional and international peace, security, and economic challenges.

The Joint Council expressed concern over the escalating developments in Israel and Gaza, condemning attacks on civilians and calling for protection, restraint, the release of hostages, and humanitarian access in compliance with international law.

The EU and GCC ministers emphasized the necessity of a political solution to prevent violence and urged all involved parties to exercise restraint and engage in communication.

The Joint Council commended Saudi Arabia, the EU, and the Arab League for their efforts to revitalize the Middle East peace process, in collaboration with Egypt and Jordan.
